Worcester Festival Choral Society members are friendly and enthusiastic, with a real passion for outstanding choral singing! Depending on existing numbers, we sometimes have places for new singers to join each September. Whether you are an existing member or looking to join, you'll find all the information you need on this page. Or contact us for more information.
Lots of information for existing and prospective members, including dress code and subscription details, can be found on our Frequently Asked Questions page.
WFCS RULES (updated September 2012)
Rehearsals take place in Worcester Cathedral on term-time Monday evenings from 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm, from early September until the end of the following March each year. For our 2017-18 season, the first rehearsal of the autumn term takes place on Monday, 4th September 2017. Rehearsals on concert days take place at the concert venue (Worcester Cathedral) normally commencing at 2:00 pm. As a member of the Choir you are expected to participate in all concerts in which the Choir is engaged and to attend as many rehearsals as possible. We expect members to be at a minimum of 80% of rehearsals for each concert, please note that attendance at the afternoon rehearsal prior to a concert is compulsory. The rehearsal schedule provides information about our schedule and includes forthcoming concerts and other events.
Music is provided free to members for all concerts with the exception of the Messiah. You will be expected to purchase your own copy of the Messiah – Watkins Shaw edition. Use our link to Amazon if you do not have a copy and need to buy one. All borrowed music must be returned to our Librarian by the night of the concert. If for any reason you find that you are unable to sing in a concert then please return your music as soon as possible and at the latest at the last rehearsal before the concert. If you cannot bring it or send it via a friend to a Monday rehearsal then it can be delivered or posted to her home address; please contact our librarian Jenny Brumhead for details. Every Choir member must have a WFCS folder to be used during concerts. These are issued to members on receipt of a £5 deposit, which is returnable when the member returns the folder on leaving the Choir. If you are a new member then please see Jenny Brumhead to obtain your folder.
