Worcester festival choral society
Welcome on Thursday 20th November

Welcome to the Worcester Festival Choral Society Website

The Worcester Festival Choral Society is made up of singers of all ages from a wide cross-section of the community. Worcestershire audiences have been enjoying the concerts given by the Society in the Cathedral since it was founded in 1861. The Society is a leading promoter of major concerts in Worcester, as well as being one of the oldest.

The Society had close associations with the Elgar family from its early days; indeed several members of the family joined it.  Edward led the orchestra and often conducted his own works at its concerts and he wrote two works for the Society, The Black Knight (1892) and From the Bavarian Highlands (1895).

We rehearse in Worcester Cathedral every Monday from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m between September and March. Rehearsals for the next season commence on 8 September 2008 and continue until our final concert on 28 March 2009. The Choir normally gives three performances each season, which are highlights in the Worcestershire Music and Arts scene. After this some members are selected to sing in the Three Choirs Festival in August.  Our concerts take place in the magnificent Cathedral and are accompanied by a variety of orchestras.

Now is an excellent time to join the Choir as we will soon be starting another very busy concert season.
