A marvellous year of music making has just gone by as WFCS commemorated 150 years of singing great choral works in 2011.   With a membership now standing at 170, WFCS is one of the largest choral societies in the country and we attract large audiences to our concerts.  Even in this age of digital downloads, live musical performance cannot be beaten whether you participate as a singer, musician or concert-goer and WFCS thrives in all aspects! So why not get involved now and be part of this thriving community of singers and help maintain this tradition for the next 150 years!

Alas, we shall be bidding farewell to our current, and inspirational, Director of Music, Adrian Lucas, at the end of the 2011/12 season. Adrian has led us for the last 15 years and in that time has made an outstanding contribution to our musical legacy.  Monday night rehearsals with Adrian have always been a pleasure to look forward to with his mix of focused choral training coupled with his superb musical knowledge and wit.  We wish Adrian well as he embarks on his new career in music recording and conducting.   

As Adrian leaves, it is a great pleasure to announce that Dr Peter Nardone will be taking over as the new Director of Music at WFCS.  Peter has been the Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral since 2000. He trained as a professional singer. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts by the University of Anglia Ruskin in 2010.

Our first concert in 2012, and Adrian’s last with us, is Bach’s sacred oratorio St John Passion on Saturday, 24^th March.  We shall be welcoming six soloists and members of the Westminster Chamber Orchestra for this magnificent prelude to Easter.
