Worcester Festival Choral Society was founded in 1861 and had close associations with Edward Elgar from its early days. The Society, which is based in Worcester Cathedral, is made up of approximately 150 singers from a wide cross-section of the Worcestershire community. It is not only a leading promoter of major concerts in Worcestershire (see archive of past performances), but is also one of the most highly regarded choirs in the country. The choir is conducted by Adrian Lucas who is in his 13th season as Musical Director. Adrian is a widely respected conductor and is Artistic Director of the Worcester Three Choirs Festival.
In 2011 Worcester Festival Choral Society celebrates its 150th anniversary with a feast of good music to mark the occasion. So why not get involved now either as a singer, a patron, sponsor or concert-goer and make your own contribution to secure the future of great choral music in Worcester for the next 150 years. How to help
We are always on the look out for new members to come and sing with us. How to join us. We are holding our next Open Rehearsal on Monday, 13th September 2010. Our usual rehearsals take place in Worcester Cathedral every Monday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm between September and March. The Choral Society generally puts on three performances each season in the magnificent surround of Worcester Cathedral and always accompanied by a well known orchestra. Some members are also invited to sing in the Three Choirs Festival which takes place in August.
